Nov. 29, 2008: Message: How to End Wars

James 4:1-14

Actual Audio Message Delivered by Pastor Edwin Locsin
message.mp3 -

Types of War in this World
1. Fights among believers / with each other (v 1)
Reasons
*clash war
*employment wars
*church fights
*personal fights

2. War with ourselves (v 1b-3)
*from selfish desires that battles within you
exx. Eve's disobedience because of her desire to become like God

* Selfish desires are dangerous, and can lead to wrong prayers and wrong actions

* people with selfish desires are troubled; instead of giving thanks for the blessings they currently have, they grumble because of their desire for other things

3. War with God (v4-10)
We are at war with God when:
*we choose to befriend the world is at war with God
"World" here means the sinful "standards" of this world
*our flesh dominates us
*we who are proud
-pride is the devil's main weapon

How to stop wars
1. Submit yourselves to God (v 7)
2. Draw near to God
- confess your sins
3. Humble yourselves before the Lord
- and He will lift you up

Thank You

This is our 96th post. It has been a year since this blog was put up.We are short of 4 posts until we reach our 100th. But still we want to celebrate our 96th post with a Thank You :).

There are a lot of things that we are grateful. Listing them would not be enough to express our appreciation and gratitude for everything that has happened. We are even thankful for the trials, challenges, problems, and hardships that has come our way because it has strengthened and increased our faith, love, trust, our desire to serve and spread the word, and our relationship to God.

The following is a song from Katinas entitled Thank You.

Oct. 26, 2008: Message : Joyful Man

James 1:1-26

Actual Audio Message from Pastor Edwin Locsin (language is in Cebuano)
message.mp3 -

Problems Experienced by Christians
- persecutions
- poverty, etc.

*Happiness in times of negative circumstances

Signs of a Joyful Man

1. Pure Joy to encounter trials
-v2 "consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds
-v3 because you know that the testing of your faith DEVELOPS PERSEVERANCE
-v4 so that you may be MATURE, COMPLETE, and NOT LACKING ANYTHING."
-trials work for us and not against us
- the only way God can develop patience in us is through trials

2. Perseverance under trials
Rewards under trials
- builds character
- God is glorified
- receive the crown of life

3. Putting God's word into practice
- do not merely listen to the word, we must do what it says

Youth Choir Song - Hallelujah (Your Love is Amazing)

Oct. 19, 2008: Message: Gideon's Faith

Judges 6:22-24

Actual Message by Pastor Edwin Locsin (message is in Cebuano)
message.mp3 -

Points to ponder
This was the story of Gideon and the army of 300

1. Greatly strengthened
- negative circumstances are brought to strengthen our faith

2. Severely tested
- Gideon's army was cut from 22,000 to 10,000 to 300 vs an army of multitudes

3. Greatly encouraged
- when problems arise, look to God and not the problems
- when problems are solved, thank God, for the all glory belongs to Him
- can encourage those around us
- it is our part to tell others about the goodness of God

Oct 12, 2008 : Message : Dangers of the Untamed Tongue

James 3:1-12

Points to ponder
*we all stumble in many ways

Illustrations of the tongue's power
1. Bits & Rudder = Power to direct
- often small but can direct
- words we speak can affect the lives of others
ex. when a judge calls a verdict "guilty" or "not-guilty"
- can also encourage or discourage others

2. Fire & Animals = Power to destroy
- evil words has the power to destroy and are very dangerous when spoken
- like serpents, some tongues spread poison
- can depress
- sets the course of the persons life on fire

3. Fountain & Fig tree = Power to Delight
- like fountains and springs that refreshes us

October 5, 2008 : Message: Song of the Redeemed

Message: Song of the Redeemed
Psalms 107

Actual audio message delivered by Pastor Edwin Locsin (language is in Cebuano)
message.mp3 -

Points to Ponder:
The believers were:
1. Redeemed from personal insufficiency
- when we acknowledge that we are insufficient, God's help will arrive
- God delivers us from our distress
- v4 - the people were lost, then after praying, God led them to the right path
- v9 - when they were hungry and thirsty, God satisfied them with good things

2. Redeemed from sin
- Bondages we that hinders us
.Bondage of mind
.Bondage of the human capacity
.Bondage of the heart

-v14 God brought them out of darkness and broke away their chains
- w/ God's help we can break away from what binds us (sin)

3. Redemption from adversities
-v25 God is the author of the storm
-God allows storms in our lives so our faith and belief in Him will grow and strengthen
-the believers can lose their courage and reasoning during a storm
-v29 God stilled the storm to a whisper

*GIVE Thanks to the Lord for He is Good and His Love endures forever

Shout to the Lord on American Idol

Who would have thought that American Idol, the number one show right now, would actually sing a christian song.

Them singing Shout to the Lord was a suprise. That is because TV shows aired at primtime or hit tv shows do not usually or rarely showcase christian songs and for AI to sing one of the best worship song is something different. It is like a bridging the gap between mainstream song and chrisitian songs.

For some you failed to see the performance, below are the videos from youtube. For the first video, instead of the Jesus on the beginning, they've changed it to shepherd for reasons I do not know. This was performed during Idol Gives Back.

The second video, on the other hand, contains the original lyrics but was performed on separate day.

So here it is. Enjoy :)

Some Inspirational Verses to Uplift Us

This is a repost (from forwarded e-mail)

-------------------

There is nothing too big for God to handle. (Matthew 19:26)There is nothing too bad for him to forgive. (1 John 1:9)

The forces that threaten to steal your life and your future are puny compared to his awesome power. (Romans 8:38-39)

He could change your fortune in a day if he wanted to. (Daniel 2:21)

If he doesn’t, there’s a good reason why. (Proverbs 16:9)

He not only loves you, he is delighted with you despite all your dysfunctions, and revels in every moment you spend with him. (Song of Solomon 2:10-13)

He knows your sorrow. He remembers that you are dust, and collects all your tears in a bottle. (Psalm 103:14; Psalm 56:8)

He will give you strength and courage for whatever you may yet have to go through. (Romans 8:31)

Someday, from your mansion in heaven, you will look back on this day and smile, because you will realize that your light and momentary troubles were achieving for you an eternal glory that far outweighs them all in comparison. (2 Corinthians 4:17-18)

God Bless Us All !!! :)

The Fern and the Bamboo

Here's another story e-mailed by a friend of mine.

Happy reading and I hope you will learn something from this.

-----------------------------

One day I decided to quit.... I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality. .... I wanted to quit my life.

I went to the woods to have one last talk with God.

"God", I said. "Can you give me one good reason not to quit?"

His answer surprised me...

"Look around", He said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"

"Yes", I replied.

"When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water.

The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.

In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo".

He said. "In the third year, there was still nothing from the bamboo seed.
But I would not quit.

In the fourth year, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. I would not quit."

He said. "Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth.

Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant. But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall. It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a
challenge it could not handle."

He said to me. "Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots. I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you. Don't compare yourself to others."

He said. "The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern, yet, they both make the forest beautiful."

"Your time will come, "God said to me. " You will rise high!"

"How high should I rise?" I asked.

"How high will the bamboo rise?" He asked in return.

"As high as it can?" I questioned.

"Yes." He said, "Give me glory by rising as high as you can."

I left the forest and brought back this story. I hope these words can help you see that God will never give up on you........

Never regret a day in your life.

Good days give you Happiness.

Bad days give you Experiences.

Both are essential to life.

Keep going...

Happiness keeps you Sweet,
Trials keep you Strong,
Sorrows keep you Human,
Failures keep you Humble,
Success keeps You Glowing,
But Only God keeps You Going!

A Coin

Read the texts below and I hope you will be inspired.

----------------------------------------------------------------

An unemployed graduate woke up one morning and checked his pocket. All he had left was $10. He decided to use it to buy food and then wait for death as he was too proud to go begging. He was frustrated as he could find no job, and nobody was ready to help him.

He bought food and as he sat down to eat, an old man and two little children came along and asked him to help them with food as they had not eaten for almost a week. He looked at them. They were so lean that he could see their bones coming out. Their eyes had gone into the socket.

With the last bit of compassion he had, he gave them the food. The old man and children prayed that God would bless and prosper him and then gave him a very old coin. The young graduate said to them "you need the prayer more than I do".

With no money, no job, no food, the young graduate went under the bridge to rest and wait for death. As he was about to sleep, he saw an old newspaper on the ground. He picked it up, and suddenly he saw an advertisement for people with old coins to come to a certain address. He decided to go there with the old coin the old man gave him. On getting to the place, he gave the proprietor the coin. The proprietor screamed, brought out a big book and showed the young graduate a photograph. This same old coin was worth 3 million dollars. The young graduate was overjoyed as the proprietor gave him a bank draft for 3 million dollars within an hour. He collected the Bank Draft and went in search of the old man and little children.

By the time he got to where he left them eating, they had gone. He asked the owner of the canteen if he knew them. He said no but they left a note for you. He quickly opened the note thinking it would lead him to find them.

This is what the note said: "You gave us your all and we have rewarded you back with the coin" Signed God the Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost. 1 Kings 17:10-16; Matthew 11:28-30

Student and Professor

Someone sent me the following story about a student and his professor. I find this really interesting and I hope you'll get something from it and incrrease your faith in GOD.

An atheist professor of philosophy speaks to his class on the problem science has with God, the Almighty.

He asks one of his new Christian students to stand and...

Professor : You are a Christian, aren't you, son?

Student : Yes, sir.
Prof : So you believe in God?
Student : Absolutely, sir.
Prof : Is God good?
Student : Sure.
Prof : Is God all-powerful?
Student : Yes.
Prof : My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to God to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But God didn't. How is this God good then? Hmm?

(Student is silent.)

Prof : You can't answer, can you? Let' s start again, young fella. Is God good?
Student :Yes.
Prof : Is Satan good?
Student : No.
Prof : Where does Satan come from?
Student : From...God...
Prof : That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?
Student : Yes.
Prof : Evil is everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything. Correct?
Student : Yes.
Prof : So who created evil?

(Student does not answer.)

Prof: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don't they?
Student :Yes, sir.
Prof: So, who created them?

(Student has no answer.)

Prof : Science says you have 5 senses you use to identify and observe the world around you. Tell me, son...Have you ever seen God?
Student : No, sir.
Prof: Tell us if you have ever heard your God?
Student : No , sir.
Prof: Have you ever felt your God, tasted your God, smelt your God? Have you ever had any sensory perception of God for that matter?
Student : No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.
Prof: Yet you still believe in Him?
Student : Yes.
Prof: According to empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?
Student : Nothing. I only have my faith.
Prof: Yes. Faith. And that is the problem science has.
Student : Professor, is there such a thing as heat?
Prof: Yes.
Student : And is there such a thing as cold?
Prof: Yes.
Student : No sir. There isn't.

(The lecture theatre becomes very quiet with this turn of events.)
Student : Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don't have anything called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.

(There is pin-drop silence in the lecture theatre.)

Student : What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?
Prof: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?
Student : You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light....But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and it's called darkness, isn't it? In reality, darkness isn't. If it were you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?
Prof: So what is the point you are making, young man?
Student : Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.
Prof: Flawed? Can you explain how?
Student : Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor. Do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?
Prof: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.
Student : Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?

(The Professor shakes his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument is going.)

Student : Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavour, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?

(The class is in uproar.)

Student : Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor's brain?

(The class breaks out into laughter.)

Student : Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's brain, felt it, touched or smelt it?...No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?

(The room is silent. The professor stares at the student, his face unfathomable.)

Prof: I guess you'll have to take them on faith, son.
Student : That is it, sir...The link between man & God is FAITH. That is all that keeps things moving & alive.
